Policies & Conduct
The Library of Graham welcomes all residents and visitors and is dedicated to free and equal access to information, knowledge, learning and the joys of reading. The library seeks to provide patrons with a safe and pleasant experience in an atmosphere conducive to study, reading, learning and appropriate use of materials and services. With public service as the highest priority, the library and its advisory board has established these rules and regulations governing use of the library so that all persons may enjoy the benefits of the library. Individuals visiting or using the library’s facilities or services must comply with the following Patron Code of Conduct.
BULLETIN BOARDS, POSTERS, AND PUBLIC NOTICES
There is a limited amount of counter space for literature from nonprofit organizations. For profit items are prohibited.
CELL PHONE USE
When entering the library please turn off your phone ringer. Your phone and library wi-fi may be used for research but making or receiving calls in the library is prohibited.
PARKING LOT
The library lot is for the exclusive use of library patrons. Neither the library or the City of Graham is responsible for loss or damage to a vehicle or its contents while parked in the library’s parking lot.
RULES OF CONDUCT
While on library property the following actions are prohibited:
- Abandoning, neglecting, or leaving young children unattended.
- Being in the library before or after library operating hours without the written permission of library director.
- Blocking any entrance, exit, or aisle.
- Bringing in any animals except service dogs.
- Bringing in bedrolls, duffle bags, and other large luggage items.
- Bringing bicycles into the library. Skates/skateboards etc. must be carried at all times.
- Damaging or vandalizing library facilities, equipment or materials.
- Distributing or posting printed materials or literature without prior library directorship approval.
- Eating, drinking, or using tobacco products.
- Engaging in acts which are subject to prosecution under criminal or civil codes of law.
- Engaging in any indecent or obscene conduct or making any indecent exposure of his or her person.
- Entering office/workroom areas unless accompanied by a staff member or with written permission of the director.
- Harassing other library users or library staff, including physical, sexual, or verbal abuse.
- Indulging in a disturbance of the public peace by loud or aggressive behavior, boisterous behavior, running, profanity, or abusive language.
- Lack of protective footwear or adequate clothing.
- Offensive bodily hygiene which constitutes a nuisance to others.
- Possessing or being under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs.
- Removing library materials without properly checking them out.
- Selling, soliciting, or panhandling to patrons or staff.
Illegal activity, as well as any willful or repeated violations of this Patron Code or Policies may result in removal from the library and/or suspension of library privileges. In addition, where authorized by Federal, State, or local law, violations of the Code of Conduct my also result in arrest.
